So much of our life is spent thinking of and doing things for others. When December rolls around, we show our love for others with gifts and get-togethers. Before we know it, we’re busy making new resolutions for the new year, preparing for the next round of holidays and making long lists of things to do around the house.
With all this go go go, it’s almost impossible to slow down and take some time to reflect.
One of the ways we can do this is by taking more time out of our busy lives. Taking time to reflect is a great way to boost our mental health and recoup. When we reflex, we can focus on the many positive things in our life. We’re reminded of the people and things we’re grateful for and think of ways to improve ourselves.
You’re probably thinking, “nothing in my schedule can give, how can I make any extra time?” or you might be thinking, “I’ll never have any time for myself or just to sit and think!” I understand that way of thinking.
But here are some tips on finding a bit of time for reflection.
Adjust your schedule. We make our schedules based on priorities. Of course, we all have obligations during the day, but there are most likely some areas in your schedule that can be moved a little. If you have time to stream multiple shows, you have extra time. If you tend to say yes to every invite, you have room to flex your schedule. Consider areas in your life where you can make a little more time (that may mean putting other things on hold).
If you don’t have any wiggle room, try adding just a few minutes of reflection time. Take 5-10 minutes before bed, a few extra minutes in the shower or even when you’re waiting in that afterschool pickup line. Even just a few minutes a day can help improve your mindset.
Use your time wisely. Now that you’ve found a few minutes, what do you do with this time? This is where you allow yourself to think clearly, to reflect and let go of the stresses that build up daily. Maybe streaming shows is how you relieve stress, and that’s OK from time to time. But, you should also allow yourself time to take walks, listen to soothing music, take a warm bath or just sit alone with your thoughts and notepad.
You can also use this time to clear your mind and meditate for a few minutes or write or day three things you’re grateful for that week.
Create a relaxing area.
It can also help if you create a physical space that allows you to relax. This might involve closing the door to your bedroom for a few personal moments or you might be able to create a tidy spot in your house that you go to for reflection. Keep this area clean and clutter-free. Another great way to increase relaxation is by using a calming scent. Check out my high-quality essential oils and luxury fragrances. You can find fragrances that encourage clarity, aid relaxation or even help uplift you.
Taking this time allows you to participate in real reflection. You can consider what you’re truly grateful for and the changes that need to be made with more clarity. It gives you time to unwind, let go and move forward with more positivity in the days ahead.
